WWE Backlash 2020 odds: Picks, predictions from wrestling insider who nailed two Royal Rumbles

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, the WWE has staged two pay-per-views without fans and used the opportunity to hold matches with more cinematic elements. On Sunday, the sports entertainment company will hold a third pay-per-view, WWE Backlash 2020. The loaded 2020 WWE Backlash card features five title matches and a potentially legendary showdown between Edge and Randy Orton in what’s being billed as “The Greatest Match Ever.”

That’s lofty marketing to live up to, but the former Rated RKO members have been building this feud for over four months. Orton is a -110 favorite, with Edge listed at +140 in the latest 2020 WWE Backlash odds. WWE Universal Champion Braun Strowman is the biggest favorite of the night at -1000 against John Morrison & The Miz (+525) in a handicap match. Before you make your 2020 WWE Backlash picks, be sure to see the latest WWE predictions from pro wrestling handicapper Adam Silverstein.

Silverstein has been covering the WWE for CBS Sports since 2015. In 2018, he nailed the winners of each Royal Rumble: Asuka and Shinsuke Nakamura. He followed that up with another sweep in 2019, calling Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch to win. More recently, Silverstein went 10-3 on plays and leans at WrestleMania 36, and anyone who followed his lead is up big.

Now, he has turned his attention to the 2020 Backlash card and locked in strong WWE picks. Head here to see them

Top 2020 Backlash predictions

Silverstein is backing Sheamus (-200) in his singles match against the legendary Jeff Hardy. The WWE has made the decision to use Hardy’s past issues with drugs and alcohol to fuel this rivalry, with Sheamus making it look like Hardy was driving under the influence and had taken out fellow WWE superstar Elias.

Then, on Friday, Sheamus forced a urine test prior to their Backlash contract signing on SmackDown. The segment ended with Hardy throwing the “sample” in Sheamus’ face. Those over-the-top antics likely mean this feud is set up to last for several months by WWE’s writers.

“This feud must ultimately end with Hardy going over Sheamus, and it feels a bit too early for that to happen in their first pay-per-view meeting,” Silverstein told SportsLine. “Clearly this storyline has a ways to go, and the heel should go over first to make that happen.”
