Carlos Takam vs. Jerry Forrest odds, betting lines, picks: Top Rank predictions from boxing insider who’s 10-0

Veteran heavyweights Carlos Takam and Jerry Forrest clash Thursday in Las Vegas in one of the most competitive main events Top Rank has staged since boxing returned. It’s the headline bout on a seven-fight card from The Bubble at the MGM Grand Conference Center and starts at 8 p.m. ET. A 39-year-old Cameroon native, Takam (38-5-1, 28 KOs) has won three straight fights, showing he remains a force despite his age. He got the call to face Forrest after Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller was pulled for failing a drug test.

Forrest, a 32-year-old southpaw from Virginia, has won 19 of his last 20 fights, the loss coming via split decision to undefeated prospect Jermaine Franklin last year. Takam is a -155 favorite (risk $155 to win $100) in the latest Takam vs. Forrest odds, with the American getting +125 (risk $100 to win $125) as the underdog. Before making any Takam vs. Forrest picks, see the latest Top Rank boxing predictions from SportsLine analyst Peter Kahn

A 2019 Boxing Writers Association of America Cus D’Amato Manager of the Year nominee, Kahn has his finger on the pulse of what’s going on inside and outside the ring. Kahn manages nearly 10 percent of Top Rank’s fighters and can be seen and heard weekly as co-host of “The Fight Guys” show on FITE TV.

Not surprisingly, Kahn is uncanny when it comes to picking fights. He is a stunning 10-0 on his SportsLine boxing picks since the hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic, including a 3-0 sweep in the last week to extend his highly-profitable run.

Last year, Kahn called Deontay Wilder knocking out Dominic Breazeale in the first round, a massive 22-1 long shot bet. “Based on everything Wilder has expressed leading up to the fight and his true dislike and beef with Breazeale, expect Wilder to come out and try to get rid of him early to make a statement,” Kahn told readers. The result: Wilder ended it at the 2:17 mark with a violent one-punch knockout, and everyone who followed Kahn’s advice cashed huge.

Now, with Thursday’s Top Rank boxing card fast approaching, Kahn has studied Takam vs. Forrest from every angle, identified the best value in the boxing odds and released a highly confident pick. Head to SportsLine to see all of his boxing picks.

Carlos Castro vs. Cesar Juarez preview

In the co-feature, Kahn is backing Carlos Castro (-800 favorite) to handle Cesar Juarez (+500 underdog) in a super bantamweight 10-round bout. “Castro should outbox and outclass the underdog Juarez, who has eight losses on his record,” Kahn told SportsLine. “Juarez will be a tune-up for Castro as he moves toward a world title shot.”

Takam vs. Forrest preview

Although Takam has faced tougher opposition, Kahn said Forrest (26-3, 20 KOs) opened a lot of eyes in his loss to the much-hyped, now 20-0 Franklin. “Two of the judges had it 97-93 for Franklin, while the other had it 96-94 for Forrest,” Kahn said.

Forrest has been stopped just once in his career, and he’s seven years younger than Takam. In addition, Kahn noted, Forrest has the ability to land power shots. “Look for Forrest to swing for the fences,” Kahn told SportsLine. “He’s not going to outbox Takam.”
